Judith Lee Mims, 67, born 13 July 1955 to Harold Avery Mims and Dorothy Mae Mims in Truth
or Consequences, New Mexico, passed away 14 July 2022 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Judy graduated from Hot Springs High School in Truth or Consequences in 1973. She joined
the United States Navy in 1974 and earned the rank of Chief Petty Officer (E7) before retiring in
1998. During her long career, she was assigned to the following duty stations: Commander
Anti-Submarine Warfare U.S. Pacific Fleet; Naval Aviation European Repair and Rework
Facility, Naples, Italy; Naval AviationTraining Group Detachment, Virginia Beach, VA; Patrol
Squadron Five, Jacksonville, FL; Naval Education and Training Management Activity,
Pensacola, FL; Patrol Squadron Ten, Brunswick, ME; and Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron
Four, Oklahoma City, OK. Chief Mims was also assigned to numerous tours of duty outside the
United States mainland including Spain, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Bermuda and Puerto Rico.
Her Navy awards include the Navy Commendation Medal, Armed Forces Services Medal, Navy
Achievement Medal (five), Good Conduct Medal (five), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Sea
Service Ribbon (five), Overseas Service Ribbon (three), Coast Guard Meritorious Service
Ribbon (two), National Defense Medal (two), Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon and Coast
Guard Unit Commendation Ribbon.
Judy met Lynette Ballas in 1989 in Pensacola, FL where Lynette was a civilian working for the
Moral Welfare and Recreation Department for the Navy. Judy and Lynette were partners for 33
years, marrying in 2018 in Las Cruces, NM where they made their home with their fur babies.
Judy was preceded in death by her father, Harold Mims, her mother, Dorothy Mims and her
sister, Karen Baize. Mourning Judy’s death is her wife, Lynette, and their two fur babies, Joplin
and Darby. She is also survived by her brother, Ted Graham and wife, Maureen; her sister,
Lynne Eiser-Kelly and husband, Mike, her brother, Terry Mims; her niece, D’Anne Stuart and
fiance, Kenny Gillespie, her nephew, Bo Baize and wife, Billie; her niece, Heather Lee and
husband, Kerry; her niece Krissy Ayala and husband, Mark; her nephew, Kerry Graham and
wife, Jen; her nephew Sam Eiser and wife, Jerri; and her nephew, Russ Eiser and wife, Jess.
Judy was also blessed and survived by many great nieces and nephews who loved her very
much.
