Obituary for Juan Najera

Juan  Najera
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Juan Najera. Juan was born on May 19, 1949, in Alamogordo NM. He was called to his heavenly home on October 23rd, where he was reunited with his parents Alfredo and Candelaria Najera and siblings Joe Najera and Helen Maynez.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 47 years, Eduvina Najera; His two sons, Michael, and Matthew (Eva), his very special grandsons Matthew J and Julian. Siblings, Mary Najera, Catherine Duryea (Marion) and James Najera (Adelina), brother-in-law Miguel Maynez and sister-in-law Yvette Najera as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, and lifelong friends.
He was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served his country. He had a passion for music and was a wonderful dancer. He continued to share his love for music and dance with his family and friends especially with his grandchildren. He was the vocalist in his younger years with the band “The Nite Lites”. Throughout his life he worked for AT&T and proudly finished his years at WSMR as a Computer Graphic Specialist where he retired and continued his love for photography. Juan was the most loving and selfless man you could have ever crossed path with and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Juan also served his Catholic parish for many years as a CCD and baptismal instructor and volunteered within the parish community. Juan also known as “Pops” to many of his son’s friends was a mentor and offered endless love, consejos, and direction in their lives. Juan enjoyed many of family gatherings and taking endless pictures for family and friends. Juan also enjoyed watching football and cheering on his favorite team the Redskins. Juan will be greatly missed, and his legacy will live on through his loved ones.
Visitation will be Wednesday November 2nd at 5pm-7pm at Getz funeral home with rosary at 7pm. The funeral mass will be Thursday November 3rd at 10am at St. Genevieve’s Church. The rite of committal and interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
Serving as casket bearers included, Michael Najera, Matthew Najera, Ben Najera, Augustine Montoya, Victor Hernandez, Raul Hernandez, Gabriel Valenzuela, and Gilbert Tarin. Honorary bearers will be Matthew J. Najera, Marissa Pacheco, Javier Pacheco, Desi Duryea, Cecilia Horner, and Olga Najera D’Loomis.
