Maria Guadalupe Rios-Alvillar joined our heavenly father on August 17, 2023.
Maria was born on July 25, 1949. She was raised in the town of Mesilla and regularly attended the Basilica of San Albino.
She was an early graduate of Las Cruces High. She then went on to attend NMSU where she would receive her masters' degree in teaching.
She served her community as a teacher for more than 30 years. She prided herself on her teachings which included public school on every level, catechism Sunday school, music, as well as Folklorico dancing.
"Lupe", as many close to her knew her by, was very passionate about her family, her students, and her career. She was everyone's favorite Tia and teacher. She enjoyed visiting loved ones and spreading her wisdom to those that asked for guidance.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother Jose, Theresa Rios, and her son Ruben Padilla.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years Raul Alvillar and her children Angelita Padilla, Mario Padilla, and Julian Padilla, 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends will miss her greatly.
Her celebration of life ceremony will be held at Getz Funeral Home on September 9, 2023, at 10 a.m.
