Arnold "A.D." Black, 90, prominent citizen of Hatch, NM died Wednesday Oct. 10, 2007. He was born Jan. 26, 1917 in Shannon, TX to Jesse and Matilda Black who were pioneers and homesteaders in the New Mexico territory near Clovis in the 1900's. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp where he served his country honorably as a Sergeant during WW II. While in the service of his country he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and the WW II Victory Medal. A.D. was retired after many years of faithful service from the USDA as a Soil Conservationist. He had been a member of the Christian Church in Lordsburg, and elected member of the Lordsburg City Council and Past Commander of the Lordsburg American Legion. He was also a member of St. John's United Methodist Church in Hatch, a member of the Lions Club, Senior Citizen's Club on the Library Board and along with his wife served on the Cemetery Board in Hatch. He conducted many outdoor classes for the students of the "FFA" Future Farmers of America in the Hatch and Garfield areas. A.D. had a passion for Ham Radio and was fondly known as operator "W5EZQ". He will be deeply missed by all his family and many friends who knew him as a person who was always willing to help people in anyway that he could. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Pauline Black of University Terrace Good Samaritan Village; sons Donald Black and his wife Carol of Los Lunas, NM and Douglas Black of North Plains, OR; daughters Priscilla Lockyear and husband Robert of Las Cruces and Christia Causbie and husband Johnny of Los Lunas, NM; brother William Black of Auburn, WA; sisters Winifred Stokes of Mesquite, TX, Lorene Walker and husband Carl of Yakima, WA and Mozelle Holloway of Spokane, WA; grandchildren Arnold Wesley, Klint, Wiley, Daniel, Erin Marie, Christopher, Lisa and Sarah and by 9 great-grandchildren. A.D. was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Harlan Black of Ft. Stockton, TX. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate his life will be at 2 PM on Monday, Oct. 15, 2007 at the Church of God in Hatch, NM with Rev. Jim Wood and Pastor Herb Pinney officiating. Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Hatch, NM with military honors. PDF Printable Version
