Anita Medina, 83, of Las Cruces, passed away at home on Friday, March 10, 2017. Anita, an only child, to Fred and Aurora Castillo, was born September 10, 1933 in Los Lunas, New Mexico. She was raised in Albuquerque by her aunts, graduated from St. Mary's High School and received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Loretto College in Denver. Anita Medina, 83, of Las Cruces, passed away at home on Friday, March 10, 2017. Anita, an only child, to Fred and Aurora Castillo, was born September 10, 1933 in Los Lunas, New Mexico. She was raised in Albuquerque by her aunts, graduated from St. Mary's High School and received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Loretto College in Denver. Anita began working in a Denver hospital, but wanting to be closer to home, moved to Santa Fe and became a school nurse, where she met Felipe Medina. She and Felipe married in 1956, celebrating 60-plus years of marriage and raising six children. She lived her Catholic faith by being involved in many Catholic causes and organizations. Anita enjoyed making quilts and custom care packages for her newborn, grand and great grand-children, and was an avid New Mexico State University sports fan. Anita is survived by her husband Felipe, children, Frank Medina and his wife Laurie, Anthony Medina and his wife Leslie, Roberta Lawson and her husband Allen, John Medina and his wife Kathy, Marta Bauman and her husband Aaron, fifteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, half-brother Arthur Castillo and his wife Antoinette, and half-sister Juliette Castillo. Anita was preceded in death by her son Marcos in 2000. A rosary and prayer vigil will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Basilica of San Albino Catholic Church, and funeral Mass on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. at the Basilica of San Albino Catholic Church...
