Ascension "Chon" S. Flores, 90 of Las Cruces entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 3rd 2015. Chon was born on February 22nd, 1925 in Carlsbad, NM to Jose and Carlota Flores. Chon was one of ten children. He served his country honorably in the United States Army. He married Cecilia Duran and together they raised 4 children. Chon retired from the City of Las Cruces after 27 years of service as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Saint Genevieve's Catholic Church and a life member of VFW Post 3242. Chon was fortunate enough to travel to Washington, DC with the 1st World War II Honor Flight. Chon is survived by two sons, Eddie (Yvonne) and Sam (Marie) of Las Cruces. Daughters are Carol (Raymond Barela) of Doa Ana and Juanita (Paul Acosta) of Tucson, AZ. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Mary Serna Flores and his sister Juanita Ramos both of Las Cruces. Surviving Grandchildren are Charles Flores of Phoenix, Richard Flores and Sam Flores of Las Cruces, Eddie Flores Jr. and Nicole Maldonado of Albuquerque, Alyssa and Bennie Acosta of Tucson. Surviving Great-Grandchildren are Marissa Flores of Houston, Gian Carlo of Whitter, CA and Jazlyn, Joey and Layla Maldonado of Albuquerque. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Chon is preceded in death by his parents, wife Celcilia in 2011, his son Charlie and grandson Russell in 2007 and eight siblings. Pallbearers will be Raymond and Robert Barela, Charles Flores, Richard Flores, Eddie Jr. Flores and Albert Ramos. A visitation is scheduled for the friends and family of Ascension on Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 5-6pm and will be immediately followed by a prayer vigil at Getz Funeral Home. A Funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, October 9, 2015 at 2pm at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. At Ascension's request the mass will be followed by cremation at Getz Family Crematory.
