Albino A. Hernandez, 74, of Las Cruces died Saturday April 2, 2011. Al as he was fondly known was born May 22, 1936 in Fort Davis, TX to Florencio and Maria Jesus Alvarez Hernandez. Al was a veteran of US Air Force where he served our country honorably during the Korean Conflict. After his Air Force Service he entered the New Mexico Army National Guard and retired after many years of faithful service as a Command Sergeant Major of the brigade. He enjoyed the outdoors, golf and running, but his passion was for his family. Mr. Hernandez will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Margaret Hernandez of the family home; daughters Cynthia Anaya of Las Cruces and Sandra Kelley and husband Steve of Tampa, Florida; sons Albino Hernandez II and wife Anita of Santa Fe, NM and Robert Hernandez and wife Denise of Las Cruces brothers; Tomas and Florencio Hernandez; sisters Lucy Carabajal, Mary Clark and Ester Geck. Also surviving him are his seven grandchildren Elyssa, Kyanne, Garret, Chance, Jaren, Mia and Ava. Al was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother Enrique Hernandez. A visitation will be held from 5 to 6:30 pm on Thursday April 7, 2011 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 6:30 pm. A funeral mass to celebrate his life will be at 10 am on Friday April 8, 2011 at Our Lady of Health Catholic Church with the Augustinian Recollects officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors. The honor of being a pallbearer goes to Al's family and friends. PDF Printable Version
