Albino G. "Shorty" Rodriguez, 85, lifelong resident of the Mesilla Valley died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008. He was born Feb. 3, 1923 in Dona Ana, NM to Alberto and Valentina Giron Rodriguez. He was a veteran of the US Army where he served his country honorably during WW II. While in the service of his country he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Victory Medal. Shorty was best known for being a barber with the old Herndon Barbershop and the Westside Barber Shop. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, and avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish but his passion was for playing poker. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends who knew and loved him. Albino is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Elsie Rodriguez of the family home; sons Roy Rodriguez, Daniel Rodriguez and wife Rosa and John Paul Rodriguez and wife Leticia all of Las Cruces; daughter Elizabeth Baca and husband Bryan of El Paso, TX; grandchildren Daniel Albino, Rosina, Isaiah, Roman and Bryan Jr., great-grandchildren Daniel Maeceo Rodney, Zipporah Oasis, Rowlan Alexander and Ezkiel; sister-in-law Lillian Rodriguez of Dona Ana, NM. A very special nephew Randy Rodriguez and wife Maria as well as a host of other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him. Albino was preceded in death by his brother Lorenzo and his sisters Fermina Garcia and Lupe Barela. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer vigil will follow at 7 PM. Shorty's funeral mass to celebrate his life will be at 10 AM on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Msgr. John Anderson officiating. Rite of Committal will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers are Nick Damato Jr., James Lara, Roman, Isaiah, Randy and Daniel Rodriguez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bryan Baca Jr., Rick Lara, Elseco Fajardo, Phil Madrid, Billy Garcia, Andy Barrera and Steve Velarde. PDF Printable Version
