Aletis Moore, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend died peacefully and went to be with Jesus, her Savior and Lord on Saturday January 23, 2005 at La Posada, Mesilla Valley Hospice, Las Cruces, NM. Aletis was born to John and Effie Williams on April 4, 1921 in Yellville, Arkansas. She grew up on the family farm in the Arkansas Ozarks and most of her life values of hard work, perseverance, honesty, frugalness and love of family were forged during the hard lean years of the depression. She attended a one-room country school for most of her elementary school years and graduated from Yellville-Summit High School in 1939. She attended Conway Teachers College in Conway, Arkansas for two years. In 1945 she met and married Rodney Moore who was her sweetheart and husband for more than 50 years. During the course of their marriage they lived in Kentucky and Indiana where Rodney went to college on the GI Bill, in Arizona and finally, in 1959, moved to Las Cruces, NM which she came to dearly love. She loved the wide-open spaces of the desert, the beautiful Organ Mountains and the dry climate. Aletis's interests included gardening, canning, sewing, quilting and crocheting. She was truly content being a homemaker and was happiest when her hands were busy. Her shelves were full of her home canned fruits and vegetables and she found great satisfaction in hand stitching samplers and crocheting doilies, afghans, and piecing quilts. She invested her life in the lives of her children and served in the PTA at Conlee Elementary School and Lynn Middle School and baked countless cupcakes for student as a part of her role as classroom mother. She was very willing to put the interest and concerns of her children above her own. She also served her church family by teaching children's Sunday school classes and working in women's ministries. Country Gospel music was a great source of inspiration and enjoyment for her. She will be remembered for her wonderful smile and sense of humor, her examples of gratitude and contentment and her genuine interest in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Even as her health declined, Aletis never lost her enjoyment of life or her ability to count her blessings. She rarely complained and met most of her days with a smile and gratitude. We have been blessed to have her as such an important part of our lives. Aletis is survived by her son Ronald Moore of Las Cruces, NM; daughter Renita Archuleta and husband Ernest of Las Cruces, NM; grandson Steven Archuleta and wife Marian of Las Cruces, NM; granddaughter, Jennifer Griffin and husband Gregg of Surprise, AZ; and Great grandchildren, Ana, Taylor and Emily Archuleta of Las Cruces, NM. Also surviving are her sister, Bernadine Vega of Weed, CA; brother Junior Williams and wife Tootie of Grandview, WA; cousin Juanita Epling of Yellville, AK; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Rodney Moore; sisters Kathryn Justus and Cecil Babel and one great-grandchild. Aletis's family would like to thank Bea Marquez, Josie Telles and Zulema Duenas who provided care for her at her home, the staff of Las Cruces Nursing Center and the staff of Mesilla Valley Hospice. We are so thankful for everything that each of you did to help our mother. Visitation for Aletis will be held from 5 to 7 PM at Getz Funeral Home, Tuesday, January 25, 2005.
