Alexander Alfred (Alex) Franzoy, 101 of Salem, New Mexico entered eternal life on March 14, 2012 at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Alex was born on November 23,1910 in Deming New Mexico to the late Joseph and Celestina Franzoy. It was in Hatch that he first met and later married Tessie Biada on February 24, 1934. He was the dear husband of Tessie for 77 years. Alex was preceded in death by his beloved wife Tessie in March 2011, his daughter Mary James, granddaughter Nancy Benvie Gunderson, his brothers Albert Franzoy, Joe Franzoy, Charlie Franzoy, Fred Franzoy, Frank Franzoy and his sisters Rosie Riggs, Irene Riggs and Fannie Fragale. He is survived by his sister June Rutherford, his loving children; Louise Benvie, Robert (Margie) Franzoy, and Rena (Nick) Carson, (Frank James). His treasured grandchildren include: Sister Elizabeth (Betty) Benvie, O.S.F, Bruno (Marta) Carson, Rosie (Joe Paul) Lack, Terry (Jeff) Snyder, Bobby (Irma) Franzoy, David (Gerry ) Franzoy, Rory Carson, Matthew (Corrine) Franzoy, David (Karen) Benvie, George Benvie, Ina (Efrin )Franzoy-Valdez, Peggy (Michael) Treadwell, Kit (Chelle) Carson, Michelle (Murray) Hanley, and Victoria (Cuco) Franzoy-Alanis, his cherished thirty-two great grandchildren, and his special nine great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by countless other family members and dear friends who were blessed to know him. Alex as he was affectionately known throughout the Hatch valley and beyond left a legacy of a deep faith in God, a passion for farming, love for his family, and a good sense of humor. He could often be found playing a serious game of dominoes, watering his garden, watching old westerns on television and telling interesting stories from days gone by. Alex's wisdom about farming was definitely his hallmark. His family is grateful for the tender- loving care he received at Mom and Dad's Assisted living facility in Hatch, New Mexico for the past eleven months. He enjoyed the other residents and everyone made him feel at home. Friends and family are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday, March 18 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary/prayer vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lord of Mercy Catholic Church, 120 Hall Street, Hatch, New Mexico. The funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 19 with a viewing beginning at 9:00 a.m.and the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Our Lord of Mercy Catholic Church, Hatch, New Mexico. Burial will follow the funeral Mass at Holy Cross cemetery in Salem, New Mexico.
