With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our loving mom, Alicia (Alice) Duran Garcia (86). Mom crossed over to eternal life to be with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 19, 2021, while surrounded by her family at Mountain View Regional Medical Center. She was a lifelong resident of Las Cruces, NM. On March 28, 1935, Alicia was born to Leonardo and Florencia Garcia of Las Cruces, NM. She attended Union High School and obtained her GED from Dona Ana Branch Community College. Mom was a nurse's aide at Providence Medical Center in El Paso, TX, and Memorial General Hospital in Las Cruces, NM. Mom also worked at Hanes (Leggs'/Sarah Lee) Hosiery in quality control for 27 years. After retirement, her time was spent as a foster grandma at Washington and Mesilla elementary. She was a lifelong member of VFW Post 3242 Ladies Auxiliary and St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. She was very proud to be a Tribal member of Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo of Ysleta, TX, and passed down her knowledge and pride in being Tigua to her children and grandchildren. Mom enjoyed sharing her many memories of her childhood and life experiences. Some of her favorite memories were of her time spent traveling to Ysleta with her mom to visit family and attend Tribal celebrations. Memories of her travels with her sister Lencha to Laughlin, California, and San Antonio. She is preceded in death by her parents Leonardo and Florencia Garcia, five sisters Belen Aguirre, Maria Petra Morales, Florencia (Lencha) Garcia, and Eloisa Garcia Hart, three brothers Elias, Manuel, and Gilberto Garcia and niece Estela Sanchez. Alicia is survived by her two daughters, Margaret Bustamante (Stevan) and Martha Fisher (Steven). Grandchildren: Adam (Rhanda) of Chandler, AZ, Sarah (Ricardo) of Artesia, NM, Julissa (Juan) of Las Cruces, NM, Richelle (Crystal) of Albuquerque, NM, Rissa (Kaleb) of Tahlequah OK, Isaiah, Valerie and Anthony (Katie) of Albuquerque, NM. Great-grandchildren: Jasmine (Domonic) of Las Cruces, NM, Mataeus (Shelby) of Las Cruces, NM, Makai, and Ashyra of El Paso, TX, Jaelyn, Amyah, Kashlyn, and Ricardo of Artesia, NM, Jax and Jayleigh of Las Cruces, NM and great-great-grandson: Daniel Ray Bustamante of Las Cruces, NM. Mom cared very much for her many nieces and nephews. Close to her heart were her nieces, Sylvia (CV) Triste, Yolanda Robles, Lupe Jaramillo, all of Las Cruces, Molly Gomez of California, and nephews; Edward (Boy) Telles of Las Cruces, and Robert Garcia of California. A Special thanks to her healthcare providers from Ambercare Lorena Chavez and Maria Hernandez. Special friend and senior companion Santos Portillo. Pallbearers: Stevan Bustamante, Steven Fisher, Adam Bustamante, Ricardo Huerta, Isaiah Garcia-Prudencio, Edward (Boy) Telles. Honorary Pallbearers are Mataeus Bustamante, Jax Bustamante Rios, Daniel Telles, Robert Garcia and Juan Torres. Funeral Service will be held at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 beginning with viewing at 8:30 am, Rosary at 9:30 am. Mass will begin at 10:00 am followed with Burial at St. Joseph's Cemetery at 10:45am.
