Angelita (Angie) Alderete was born in Rincon, New Mexico to Pablo and Emilia Sedillo on September 20,1934. She was educated at Lucero Elementary School, Court Jr. High, and graduated from Union High School in 1954. At an early age she professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined El Calvario Methodist Church, where she was a member of their youth group. While attending a youth retreat at Sacramento Assembly she met a handsome young man, Esau Alderete. They were married on November 6, 1955. This union was blessed with two daughters, Cynthia Alderete and Kathy O’Connell. Angie’s beautiful Christian life included taking an active role in church responsibilities. She was a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher, Youth Group Leader, Member of the Choir, Member of the Women’s Group, and mentored and counseled young married couples, led Bible Studies, and she was also a part of the Hospitality committee. She also served as the Chairman of the Administrative Board and was on the Staff, Parish Relations Committee.

Angie had such a heart for serving she also ministered to Prisoners through Chuck Colson’s Prison Fellowship Ministries for 14 Years. She and Esau were also on the planning committee to build the Southern New Mexico Correctional Visitors Hospitality House which was completed in 1992. To enrich the lives of fellow Christians Angie participated in Emmaus Walk Retreats held at Sacramento Camp and Conference Center for 8 years. Angie’s interest in banking/financial Institutions began in High School where she worked for First National Bank of Las Cruces. Then worked at Security First National Bank of Los Angeles, California while Esau attended Barber College.

Returning to Las Cruces, Angie was a homemaker from 1956-1966. She then worked for Mutual Building and Loan Association from 1966-1985 ending her banking career as the Vice-President-Branch Manager, Coordinator of all branches, Assistant Treasurer, Supervisor Accounting Dept., Bookkeeper, and Teller. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Institute of Financial Education, El Paso Chapter #32 for many years. She was President in 1984-1985.

Angie was a volunteer for the American Red Cross in the Operation Desert Storm Combat Phase in 1991. She was in training at several bases and heading to Saudi Arabia when the war ended.

Angie loved spending time with her Lord, reading her Bible/Devotions, cooking (especially eating the meal), traveling, sports, gardening, reading books, spending time with family and friends, and attending Family Camp. As a result of her selfless spirit and fun-loving personality Angie was loved by so many. Her love for Christ allowed her to love so well, unconditionally. Angie received her Ultimate Healing from her Precious Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

Angie’s influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. A Celebration of Angie’s life will take place at Desert Oasis Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 24, 2024. The church is located at 1640 Hickory Loop Suite101 in Las Cruces.
