Anne Mary Schroeder was born June 13, 1922 in Elmer, New Jersey and left this world for her next great adventure on October 30, 2011 in Las Cruces, NM. A visitation will be held from 8:00-9:00 am with services to follow on November 4 2011 at Getz Funeral Home at 9:00 am and her final resting place will be at FT. Bayard, NM. Anne retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Army Nurse Corps, after 24 years of service, in 1969. During her service she was stationed all over the world, receiving the Meritorious Service Unit Plaque, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, and National Defense Service medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. She often talked fondly of her time stationed in Japan and her home was filled with mementos and keepsakes of her Army time. In her retirement, she participated in investment clubs, bred Siamese cats, and was an avid bridge player. She loved her pets and enjoyed gardening and tending to her fruit and pecan trees, always ensuring her friends and neighbors were well stocked with produce from her yard. She had a spirit of generosity and caring, as well as a fiercely independent and strong nature. She was known as the neighborhood grandma, and she will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her. PDF Printable Version
