Annilee Charlotte McManus Mathis, 88, died Monday November 21, 2005 at the Village at Northrise. She was born October 26, 1917 in Kenedy, Texas, and was a graduate of Draughton's Business College. She married Henry Edward Mathis in 1937. They lived in west Texas and eastern New Mexico before moving to Las Cruces in 1950. Charlotte, or "Mokie," as she was known to friends and family, worked as a reporter for the Kenedy Advance before her marriage. In Las Cruces, she worked as bookkeeper/receptionist at Mesilla Valley Laboratory, and then as corporate secretary for the company Henry founded, Industrial Weed Control. She and Henry had been married for 52 years at the time of his death in 1989. "Mokie" enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and organ, crossword puzzles, and keeping track of her large family. She is the mother of Las Cruces residents Ann (Jim) Velia, Henry Edward, Jr. (Donna) Mathis, and Shirley (John) Shangreaux, and of Charles (Carol) Mathis of Monument, CO; Betty (Henry) Martin of San Antonio, TX; and Lucy (James) Heddlesten of San Jon, NM. Her family includes 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and one great-great -granddaughter. She is also survived by a sister, Ruth (Jack) Dibrell of Las Vegas, NV; a brother-in-law, M. R. "Bucky" (Karen) Redwine of Athens, GA, and a sister-in-law, Marion Allen of Milton, WI. She was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Getz Funeral Home. The Rev. Karen Redwine, Charlotte's sister-inlaw, will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of First Presbyterian Church, 200 East Boutz Rd., Las Cruces 88005, or to a favorite charity. PDF Printable Version
