Antonio "Tony" Hernandez, 73 of Las Cruces, NM died Friday April 13, 2012. He was born to Henry and Maria Hernandez in San Antonio, TX on July 27, 1938. Tony as he was known by his family and friends was a proud member of the Catholic Church and V.F.W. #10124. He served our country honorably with the United States Marine Corps, Retiring after 23 years of faithful service. During those 23 years with the Marines Tony received and earned the Rifle Expert Badge, Pistol Expert Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation (w/2*), Combat Action Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Meritorious Unit Commendation (w/palm& frame), Certificate of Commendation and Republic of Vietnam Service Medal (w/1*). After his military career, Tony worked for White Sands as a security guard for x years. Tony was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post #10124 where he was a Chaplain for 6 years. He enjoyed spending time with friends at the local Elks Lodge and volunteering his time with different community service organizations. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Tony is survived by his wife of 37 years Maria Hernandez of the family home, sons, Greg Lugo and wife Urie, and Mario Ceballos and wife Angela, all of Los Angeles, CA, brothers, Albert and Richard and sisters, Maria and Ofelia. He is also survived and his four legged kids Moses, Korky, Princess and Boy. The family would like to thank Joe Anya, Diane Garcia, Margaret and Raul Hernandez and friends from Albertsons Market and Kmart both on Main Street for all their support and help. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday April 20, 2012 at Our Lady of Health Catholic Church with the Order of the Augustinian Recollects as celebrants.
