Ardis Lucille Jacks Owen was born in Rensselaer, Indiana, in 1923 to Elmer and Leatha Jacks. She was a graduate of Indiana State University and taught science and home economics in Indiana, Arizona and New Mexico high schools. She has lived in Las Cruces since 1962 and has been an active member of University United Methodist Church, and its United Methodist Women, Chapter I of P.E.O., Faculty Wives of NMSU, Collectors' Club, Gamma Conclave of Kappa Kappa Iota, Order of Eastern Star, and Memorial Medical Center Auxiliary, and the Red Hat Club of Good Samaritan Center. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Lorene Nelson. She is survived by her husband of nearly sixty-three years, Dr. Gordon Owen of Las Cruces, by her brother, Robert H. Jacks and wife Vivian of Rensselaer, IN, and by sister Joan Melchiors of Evansville, IN. Her surviving children include Stephen, of Grants, NM; Susan Griffin and husband Terry, of Belen, NM; Daniel and wife Patricia, of Pearland, TX; Dr. Philip and wife Kimberly of Las Cruces, NM, and William and wife Martha of Tucson, AZ. Also surviving are seven grandsons and three granddaughters and eight great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday April 29, 2009 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate her life are at 10 AM on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at University United Methodist Church with Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
