Arthur P. Florez, 67, of Dona Ana, New Mexico entered into eternal life Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Casa Del Sol Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Tortilla, as he was fondly known, was born January 3, 1950 in Dona Ana, New Mexico to Ramon and Esther Florez. Tortilla served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War in which he honorably served his country. He was a life-long resident of Dona Ana where he shared a home with his brother, Andy. He enjoyed many things; he loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, hunting, frequenting casinos and of course, enjoying his favorite beverage, a cold Coors with his friends and family. By trade, Tortilla was a mechanic all his life who enjoyed his work and was always willing to help anyone in need. His warmth, his smile, his laughter, his humor will be deeply missed. He is survived by his brothers, George Florez and wife, Rosie; and his brother, Andy Florez both of Dona Ana, New Mexico as well as many, many nieces, nephews and cousins. Tortilla was preceded in death by his parents Ramon and Esther Florez; sister, Frances Zuniga; brothers, Valentine "Tino", David, Jerry and Ray Florez. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Getz Funeral Home Chapel where prayer vigil will follow at 7PM. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 2PM on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church in Dona Ana with Father Narsico officiating. At Arthur's request cremation will follow. Serving as pallbearers will be: Manuel "Buggy" Zuniga, Michael Zuniga, Ramon Florez, Chris "Goose" Florez, Johnny Florez, Eddie Flores, David Bonsack, Michael "Beans" Barela, Jay Palomino Serving as Honorary pallbearers will be: David Florez, John Florez, Tommy Zuniga, Joseph Zuniga, Jaime Hernandez, Johnny Carnero Sr., David Powells.
