It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Arturo (Tudy, Art) Barela Montoya on March 14, 2022. Arturo was born July 15, 1953, and raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Arturo took extreme pride in his beloved seventeen grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Indios from the Pueblo of Tortugas for many years. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Arturo (Tudy, Art) Barela Montoya on March 14, 2022. Arturo was born July 15, 1953, and raised in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Arturo took extreme pride in his beloved seventeen grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the Indios from the Pueblo of Tortugas for many years. He is preceded in death by his Sweetheart Bettie, parents Tommie and Nati Montoya, son Adrian Montoya and niece Bridget Lopez. He is survived by his 3 children, Gabriel Montoya (Jessica), April Montoya (Anthony), and Christina Montoya. Also, by his sisters, Francis Hernandez, Cecilia Angel and Anna Brito. Services will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 3600 Parroquia Street in Tortugas. Visitation begins at 9 am with Rosary and Mass to follow at 10 am. Graveside services will immediately follow at Tortugas Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers will be Steve Maese, Juan Morales, Anthony Munoz, Eddie Guzman, Lynn Crist, and Pat Mirabal.
