Send Flowers Arturo Terrazas June 8, 1951 - November 8, 2016 Arturo C. Terrazas It is with a very heavy heart that we announce that Arturo "Tury" Contreras Terrazas passed on to join his Heavenly Father on November 8, 2016 at age sixty-five at Mountain View Hospital, Las Cruces, NM surrounded by his family. Arturo was born in La Union, NM on June 8, 1951 to Juanita and Daniel Terrazas. He was raised in La Union, NM with his brothers Daniel, Alejandro and sister, Margarita. He graduated from Gadsden High School in 1970 and attended the University of New Mexico before serving in the United States Army and New Mexico National Guard. While living in Albuquerque, NM he was engaged to Dorothy Telles, whom he married in El Paso, TX on August 9, 1975. After working at Sandia Vending supply and the birth of his first son, Arturo moved his family to Anthony, NM where he began working for the city of Las Cruces. During his time with the city, he was a proud member of the U.S. Steelworkers Local #9424. After retiring from the city after 20 years, Arturo then worked for the County of Doa Ana for two years. In the year 2000, Arturo was elected to serve on the Doa Ana County Commission, representing the second district. His public service continued as he served on the county's Planning and Zoning commission from 2006 to 2008. He also volunteered to serve the township of La Union and was a volunteer for the New Mexico Senior Olympics for over 20 years. Arturo enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and film. But what he enjoyed most was spending time with his family and friends, especially over a good meal and good wine. Arturo is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years, Dorothy, his sons Jose Daniel, his wife Alisha and Arturo Enrique, and three grandchildren, Matthew, Angelique and Adrianna. He is also survived by his two brothers Daniel, his wife Rachel and Alejandro. He joins his father Daniel, mother Juanita and sister Margarita in everlasting life. A visitation for Arturo will begin at 5:30 PM, Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Our Lady of Refuge, located at 1320 Mercantil Avenue, La Union, NM, with a prayer vigil at 7 PM. His funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Monday, November 14, 2016 also at Our Lady of Refuge. The mass will be celebrated by Arturo's brother-in-law, Father John Telles. Following the mass, Arturo will be interred at the La Union cemetery and his family will gather in fellowship with his friends and loved ones at the parish hall after the burial. Louis Telles, Bobby Sanchez, Daniel Ray Terrazas, Matthew Torres, Eliazar Roman, Robert Scott, Joe Mendoza and Steve Duran will serve as pallbearers.
