Ascencion R. Rodriguez, 81, of Las Cruces, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009 surrounded by his family. "Chon" as he was fondly known was born Aug. 15, 1928 in Juarez Y Reforma, Mexico to Casimiro and Leonides Rodriguez. He loved the outdoors, walking was an avid sportsman but his passion was for softball where he was known as the "Maestro". Chon will be deeply missed by all his family and many friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Lydia Rodriguez; sons Francisco Rodriguez and companion Veronica and Jesus Rodriguez and wife Irma all of Las Cruces; daughters Mary Gutierrez and husband Albert, Alma Romo and Paty Rodriguez and husband Abel Hernandez all of Las Cruces; brother Rosendo Rodriguez of Clint, TX; sisters Paula Rodriguez of Las Cruces and Maria Lopez and husband Robert of San Elizario, TX; Special sisters-in-law Antonia Minjares and Luz Reyes and husband Jose. Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive Chon. Preceding him in death are his parents, sister Camila Archuleta and brother Anacleto Rodriguez. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009 at Getz Funeral Home where a prayer service will follow at 7 PM. Funeral Services to celebrate his life at 10 AM on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 also at Getz Funeral Home with Pastor Cesar Tellez of First Assembly of God officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers are Omar Lopez, Albert Trejo, Eric Padilla, James Wood, Javier Rodriguez, Anthony Wood and honorary pallbearer is Abel Hernandez.
