August Martin, primarily known as Auggie. Age 77. Went home Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Auggie was Born November 14, 1946, in Newark, Delaware to George Lloyd Martin Sr. and Sarah Isabel Pratt Martin. He grew up the youngest of 7 children, five sisters: Charlotte Hoffman, Lucille Tweed, Betty Lou Mann, Suzanne Marvel and Sarah (Sally) Hinkly and one brother George Lloyed Martin, Jr. Auggie is survived by his oldest son Kevin August Martin and Kevin’s husband Carl Covin, youngest son James Lloyd Martin, by his 1st wife, Linda Alvina Doty, his daughter Chelsea, and son Corey, by his 2nd wife Sandy, and five grandchildren: Dustin Martin, Brandy Kirkpatrick, Brianna Martin, Jameson Brayfield, and Jonah Brayfield.

Aggie graduated Rio Grande High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico and dedicated 55 years to the Fire Service in New Mexico. He proudly served New Mexico as an active member of the Fire Service starting with Albuquerque Fire Department, Station 1, and later NM State Fire Marshal’s Office, Fire Chief for NM State University, and Fire Marshal for McKinley County. His career was based on helping others and training firefighters throughout the state of NM. August had a passion for training firefighters. His work took him to all corners of the state in working with rural fire departments to improve organization, firefighting tactics, and equipment maintenance. His later career focused on the sale of fire trucks to the fire departments of Southern NM.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, hunting and fishing, building firetrucks, riding motorcycles, good conversation, and time with his companion, Joseph (Joe). He had many lifelong friendships throughout the state of NM and loved all the above very deeply.

August requested there be no graveside service. A memorial service will be in ABQ, early summer. Information will be provided for those interested in attending.
