Avis J. Jensen died peacefully in her home the morning of February 8, 2022. Avis was born in Renville, MN to Hugo and Eleanor Kurtz 9/28/1941. Avis was the second of four children, Joyce being the firstborn followed by Avis, Michael and Allan, to a modest, hard-working, rural life. Avis was raised in Minnesota where she met Carl following his return from the Navy. They quickly fell in love and married on August 6, 1960. Together, they traveled away from Minnesota, taking up residence first in Maryland where they experienced an early and difficult loss of a baby girl. They later transferred to and settled in Lompoc, California in the early 1960s, where Carl and Avis' dear friends, Jack and Marlys Masterson, later joined them. It is in Lompoc that Carl and Avis, after their earlier loss, had two boys, Kevin (May 4, 1965) and Craig (August 27, 1968). Jack and Marlys had three children, John, Deborah, and Lloyd, and the nine of us became one large family growing up and exploring together through their early years. Avis worked in public schools in Lompoc in addition to raising Kevin and Craig. They transferred to Las Cruces in 1977 for Carl's work, and Avis took up employment with White Sands Missile Range working in Housing and Billeting for thirty plus years. Avis and Carl spent their retirement enjoying each other. They took many cruises together primarily to the warm Caribbean and became regulars at the Sunland Park Racetrack where Carl mastered horse racing and Avis mastered the slots, her favorite. Avis was the family's glue organizing and supporting the innumerate associated tasks with a compulsive organizational style. Her life was thrown into a spiral following Carl's death in May 2020 struggling to find a path forward. She died peacefully and poetically at her home on February 8th, 2022 sitting in her late husband's favorite chair. Avis was kind and supportive and loved and embraced her immediate and extended family and friends. She will be missed dearly. Avis was preceded in death by her Parents Hugo and Eleanor Kurtz and Spouse Carl E. Jensen Avis is survived by her Children Kevin Jensen and Craig Jensen, Daughters-In-Law: Deirdre Jensen and Heidi Jochem, Grandchildren: Andrew, Logan, Brennan, Noah and Emma, Siblings Joyce Mullis, Michael Kurtz, and Allan Kurtz and many other family and friends.
