Betty Jo Lovelace, devoted mother and wife, passed away on September 18, 2016 at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, NM. She was born to Beatrice (Johnson) and Clarence Charlton in her beloved town of Clovis, NM where she lived until graduating from high school. Betty Jo Lovelace, devoted mother and wife, passed away on September 18, 2016 at Mesilla Valley Hospice in Las Cruces, NM. She was born to Beatrice (Johnson) and Clarence Charlton in her beloved town of Clovis, NM where she lived until graduating from high school. She remained loyal to the Clovis High Wildcats all of her life. Betty's grandparents were early pioneers of NM settling north of Clovis, NM. She spent many happy days there as a child and enjoyed hunting and fishing with her dad. Betty attended Texas Tech University and later married Arlon Lovelace of Farwell, TX. They lived their lives together in Texico, Albuquerque, Tesuque and Santa Fe, NM. Betty devoted the early years of her married life to raising her 3 daughters. She and her husband Arlon shared a joy of growing vegetables and fruit trees, traveling to the geological sites in NM, and having fun with their grandchildren. She served as an assistant Girl Scout leader and expressed her creativity in the memorable Halloween costumes she made. She later worked at Montgomery Ward in Santa Fe as an invoice records clerk. Betty always took great pride in being a "New Mexican" and served as a volunteer for the Chamber of Commerce Bienvenidos in Santa Fe. She was a member of St. John's Methodist Church and the P.E.O. In 2008 she suffered the loss of her second husband and moved to Las Cruces where she lived with her daughter Midge and son-in-law David and then at Good Samaritan Retirement Village. Being an only child, Betty was always grateful for the special friends that entered her life and especially Gordon Owen who in her last years was a true blessing. Betty had a love of art and nature and enjoyed oil painting and china painting in her retirement years. She loved the outdoors and had a knack for growing beautiful flower gardens. Birds were another favorite with hummingbirds in Tesuque and a blue jay named "Mooch" that would come to be hand fed peanuts in her back yard in Santa Fe. Betty is survived by her children: Cathy Haynes (Allan) of Lubbock TX, Leslie Bailey (David) of Ft. Sumner NM and Midge Wilson (David) of Las Cruces NM; Grandchildren: Allan Haynes III (Jamie), David Haynes, Melissa Goldschmid (Charles), Celeste Lyapin (Sasha), Kendra Bailey, and Matthew Wilson; Great Grandchildren: Rory, Mayzie and Aiden Haynes, Catherine, Emma and Elizabeth Goldschmid; and many other family members. Her beautiful life will always be cherished by her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, September 22 at 2pm at Good Samaritan Assisted Living. Memorial services will be held on October 21 st at St. John's Methodist Church in Santa Fe, NM. A private interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family will always be grateful for the loving and compassionate care Betty received from the staff of Good Samaritan, Home Instead, Memorial Medical Center and Mesilla Valley Hospice.
