BALDOMERO SANCHEZ SILVA, age 83, lifelong resident of Las Cruces was called to his heavenly home on October 1, 2017 at Trisun Care Center in El Paso, Texas. He was born in Pecos, Texas to Rafael Quintela Silva and Consuelo Sanchez Silva on February 27, 1934. He graduated from Gadsden High School in Anthony, New Mexico in 1953. Baldomero worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier from 1964 to 1992. He had several mail routes throughout his postal career, but one that stands out is his mail route throughout the downtown area of Las Cruces where he walked about 12 miles per day delivering mail to the downtown businesses and surrounding residential areas. Prior to working for the postal service, he worked as a butcher at the Valley Locker Co-Op in the 1950s that was located on W. Hadley in Las Cruces. Even though he had a full-time job at the post office, he always helped out his parents on their farm in San Miguel, New Mexico after his day at work and most weekends. Baldomero had a very strong work ethic throughout his life. After his retirement in 1992 as a mail carrier, he traveled with family and friends. One of his passions was gardening, and he had a green thumb; he could grow just about anything. As a young man, he took an interest in art and attended art classes in Las Cruces. Those left to mourn his passing include his four children, Nora Jones (Steve) from Las Cruces; Richard Silva from Phoenix, AZ; Eddie Silva from Albuquerque, NM; and Xavier Silva (Julie) from Las Cruces. He also leaves six grandchildren, Sarah Silva, Katie Silva, Alyssa Silva, Greg Silva, Kyle Jones, and Angelica Jones and one great-grandchild, Eva Nolan, as well as many nieces and nephews. Other survivors, his siblings, include Rafael Silva, Jr. from El Paso, TX; Carmen Aguirre from El Paso, TX; Arnold Silva from Phoenix, AZ; Fina Cardillo (Jerry) from Santa Barbara, CA; Ray Silva (Licha) from San Miguel, NM, and Tom Silva from San Miguel, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rafael and Consuelo Silva from San Miguel, NM and Mike Silva from Phoenix, AZ. Visitation for Baldomero Silva will be held at Getz Funeral Home, 1410 E. Bowman, Las Cruces, NM on Monday, October 9, 2017, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm (closed casket) with the Prayer Vigil scheduled from 7:00 - 8:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine & Parish in Tortugas, 3600 Parroquia St., Las Cruces with Father Valentine Jankowski officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Garden Cemetery, 5140 W. Picacho Ave. where he will be laid to rest.
