Barbara A. Yankovic, LCHS, 77, of Las Cruces, NM entered eternal life on Monday, October 27, 2008 at Mesilla Valley Hospice, La Posada. Barbara was born August 19, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Ida Kranz. She was baptized conditionally at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago in 1950 and in 1955 married Richard J. Yankovic. She was a member of New World Poets and had poetry published in New World, the Catholic Archdiocesan newspaper as well as the Chicago Tribune. In 1987 she and Richard relocated to Las Cruces where she was a very active and devoted member of the Catholic Church. Barbara was also Lady Commander of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. She is survived by her husband Richard of Las Cruces; one son James Yankovic of Chicago, Illinois; three daughters, Mary C. Modrich and husband Thomas of Viola, Wisconsin; Joan Piwowar and husband Wayne of Brandon, Florida, and Dolores Green and husband Kenneth of Chicago, Illinois. Also surviving Barbara are four grandchildren, Leslie Cockerham and husband Damon of San Francisco, California; Theodore Modrich and Laura Modrich of Viola, Wisconsin; and Jason Piwowar of Brandon, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ida and a brother, John H. Kranz Jr. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel where the Prayer Vigil will follow at 7 pm. The Funeral Liturgy will be at 10 am on Thursday, October 30, 2008 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda, with Msgr. John Anderson officiating. At Barbara's request, cremation will follow and her ashes will be inurned at St. Francis Columbarium at Holy Cross Catholic Church. PDF Printable Version
