Benjamin "Benjie" Robles Aceves It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we say, "until we meet again" to our brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, Benjamin "Benjie" Robles Aceves. Our brother Benjie passed away at home on Friday, November 2, 2018, All Souls Day. Benjie was born in Las Cruces, NM on February 18, 1965 to Guillermo M. Aceves and Genevieve Robles Aceves. Benjie was the seventh of eight siblings and born on his older brother Freddy's 9th birthday. As adults they joked about being like Schwarzenegger and DeVito in the movie "Twins". On February 27, 2017 Benjie suffered a major life-threatening auto accident when he was hit by a very large delivery truck only blocks from home when he was on his way to visit Dad at the hospital. He was flown to UMC in El Paso where he remained in ICU for 30 days. By the mercy and grace of God, he survived the accident and God allowed him to have 19 more months of life on this earth and allowed us to have Benjie for this time also. Benjie never forgot this precious gift of "extra" time on this earth, and was forever grateful and thankful to God, as was his family. He lived life to the fullest possible despite the lingering pain and aftereffects of the accident. Benjie loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking his beloved dogs, Scrappy and ZZ, for rides out to the desert to run around. He also enjoyed leaving outdoor cameras on desert bushes to capture wildlife pictures. He was happy with the pictures he got of the many wild desert animals and would be excited to share those pictures with us. His favorite TV channels were Animal Planet and PBS. He was very intelligent and strived to learn more. Prior to the accident Benjie had been the home caretaker of Mom and Dad. After Mom's death in February 2015 he continued looking after Dad until the accident happened. After the accident he was not able to do this on his own but helped our sister Lupe as much as possible until Dad's death in October 2017. Benjie loved all his nieces and nephews and was a father figure to many. He was always there to help or lend a listening ear when needed. His positive attitude, humor, intelligence and forgiving spirit will be missed by all of us. Benjie is survived by his siblings, Lupe Gonzalez (Ruben), Rachel Ochoa (Jackie), Rebecca Castillo (Alex), Mary Helen Trejo (Joe), and Freddy Rigales. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guillermo and Genevieve Aceves, brothers Billy and Michael Aceves and several aunts and uncles. Prayer and visitation services will be on Monday, November 12, 2018 at Getz Funeral Home with visitation starting at 6 pm and the Holy Rosary recitation at 7pm. The funeral mass service will be at St Genevieve Parish on Tuesday November 13, 2018 at 10 am with burial following at St Joseph Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers are JD Valenzuela, Joey Trejo, Joe Trejo, Freddy Rigales, Berna Castillo, Sarah Lee Aceves, Christopher Ochoa and Johnny Castillo. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Alex Ayala, Jackie Ochoa, Junior Rigales, Victor Castillo, Demetrio Cantu, Ralph Sosa, Manny Sosa and Danny Armendariz. Following the burial service, family and friends are invited to gather for a potluck lunch at the VFW, 2001 N. Mesquite, Las Cruces, NM, for fellowship and sharing of happy memories. Not necessary, but if you wish, you are welcome to bring any favorite dish or desert you would like to share as we gather for our last farewell to Benjie, --- until we meet again…. God Speed.
