Bernice Marie Jones, a lifelong resident of Las Cruces and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, lost her battle with Metastatic Breast Cancer on Sunday December 20, 2009. She was born January 16, 1955 in Fort Stockton, Texas. She is survived by Stanley Jones, her loving husband of 33 years, son Anthony Jones and his wife Elizabeth, her daughters Amanda and Leslie Jones, grandchildren Joshua and Lucas Jones, Jacen Reyes, Anthony M. Jones, Jonathon Martinez, and Arianna Duran, parents Mark and Rita Torres, siblings, Anna Torres, Mark Torres and his wife Valerie, Frankie Torres and his wife Patsy, Josephine Torres, Kathy Provencio, and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bernice was a beautician at Tip Top Beauty Salon, owned by her aunt Santos Guevara. After 16 years of cosmetology she decided to pursue a nursing career. She drove school buses until obtaining her nursing degree. Bernice worked at Memorial Medical Center as a nurse for the last 10 years. Bernice loved life, her family, friends, and animals. She sang in the church choir at several different times throughout her life. She was a very selfless, sensitive, loving, and caring person. She lived for spoiling her grandchildren and going on weekend getaways with her husband. Bernice will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. She will always be in our thoughts, hearts, and prayers. We are all comforted today, knowing that with her passing, heaven has gained another angel. A rosary will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral on Monday December 28, 2009 at 7 pm. A Funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be at 10 am on Tuesday December 29, 2009 also at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral Church, 1240 S. Espina. Rite of Committal will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
