It is with our deepest sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Bernice Martha Nelson on September 21st, 2007 surrounded by her loving family in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Bernice was born in Carroll, Iowa on December 15, 1931 to Frank and Delia Irlbeck. She and her siblings grew up on a farm in Dedham, Iowa. Bernice married Donald Nelson on November 25, 1953 and they were married 53 years until her husband's death in December 2006. In 1958, Bernice moved to Las Cruces with her husband and 2 children. Bernice was employed the old Memorial General Hospital on Alameda Street for 12 years and the Las Cruces Public School System for 26 years, until her retirement Bernice was a member of the Holy Cross Church for 35 years. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother and sister. She is survived by her two children, one son Keith Nelson of Colorado Springs, CO and her daughter Jennifer Nelson-McCoy and her husband Robert McCoy of Las Cruces, three granddaughters, Tamarah Nelson and her husband Jason Montoya of Las Cruces, Kristin Nelson and Megan Nelson of Denver, Colorado and her two great grandchildren Zoe Montoya and Tyler Montoya of Las Cruces. The Prayer Vigil will be at 10 AM on Monday, September 24, 2007 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 1327 N. Miranda, with the Funeral Liturgy to follow. Officiating will be Fr. Sean Garrity. Cremation will take place and inurnment of her ashes will be at St. Francis Columbarium.
