Betty J. Brawley, age 81, passed away Saturday May 4, 2013 at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM. Betty was born January 22, 1932 in Saddle Mountain, OK to parents Ernest W. Cadell and Martha E. Cadell. She was the oldest of four children. She married Everett C. Brawley on January 7, 1949 in Deming, NM after a short time living in Hatch, they moved to the family farm in Lemitar, NM where they resided for two years. In 1952 they returned to the family farm in Hatch continuing to work both farms. Hatch was their life-long residence where she spent many hours in her flower gardens. She would plant a seed anywhere there was bare ground. Betty was an avid gardener and would often say she was at peace in her garden talking with God. She also spent many enjoyable hours teaching her grandchildren to sew and cook and was a mentor to many who crossed her path. Rarely was there a task she wouldn't tackle. She was a member of Home Extension, Garden Club, Farm Bureau, Red Hat Ladies and volunteered her talents for any occasion when needed. Betty spent many years helping her children, grandchildren and community kids with their 4-H and FFA projects and attending State and County Fairs and livestock shows. In addition to her organizations she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Betty is survived by her loving husband of 64 years Everett, four children; Martha Brawley of Hatch, NM Clifton Brawley of Lemitar, NM Rebecca Owensty of Cimarron, NM and John Brawley of Hatch, NM. Thirteen Grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, one sister Katherine Stone, Elephant Butte, NM., three nephews, and one niece preceded in death by both parents, two brothers Ted D. Cadell and Ernest W. Cadell Jr. Visitation will be held Thurs. May 9, 2013 5-7 p.m. at Getz Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday May 10, 2013 at First Baptist Church, Hatch, NM, at 10:00 a.m. Interment immediately following at The Garden of Memories Cemetery in Hatch, NM.
