Betty Jo Houston born February 5, 1928 in Blooming Grove, TX to Danny Reece and Will Ewing, passed away on August 5, 2013 with her family by her side. As a child her family moved to Las Cruces where she attended school and graduated from Las Cruces High School. She met and married her husband, Grover and they moved to California and found work picking fruits and vegetable. Later they returned to Las Cruces and had two daughters. Betty worked as a grocery cashier and after several years was hired by LCPS as a cashier at Court Junior High, Las Cruces High and Picacho Middle School. She retired after 34 years. Betty loved the outdoors and spent weekends fishing, hunting, and working in her yard. She made many friends in the 75 years she lived in Las Cruces. In earlier years she was a league bowler and she received trophies including a perfect 300 game. She also enjoyed getting together with friends and playing cards, laughing, and reminiscing. Betty started the first woman's softball team in Las Cruces. Betty is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Motto (Sammy) of Las Cruces and Diana Kovar (Rodney) of Las Cruces; three grandchildren, Debbie Ramirez (John) of Las Cruces, Samantha Lujan (Javier) of San Diego, CA and William Motto (Trina) of Tucson, AZ; eight great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Grover Houston, her parents Will and Danny Ewing and granddaughter Linda Kovar-Banegas, one sister, three brothers and many nieces, nephews and friends. The funeral service will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. PDF Printable Version
