Dr. Bobby Joe Creel, 66, of Las Cruces, died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010. He was born Sept. 30, 1943 in Roswell, NM to George and Mattie Creel. Dr. Creel was the Associate Director of the Water Resources Research Institute at New Mexico State University. He enjoyed restoring classic automobiles, he was a rancher, cowboy and an avid outdoorsman who liked camping, hunting and fishing but his passion was for his family. Dr. Creel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his four children J. Scott Creel of Snohomish, WA. Kevin Creel of Peoria, AZ., Betsy Goodman and husband Seth and Sara Warriner all of Albuquerque, NM; brother Prentice Creel and wife Kathy of Odessa, TX; sister Barbara Radcliff of Alamogordo, NM and by his grandchildren Emma, Chloe and Zachary. He was preceded in death by his daughter Judy Moon and by his parents. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 2pm on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010 at Getz Funeral Home with Dr. Karl Wood Director of Water Resources Research Institute officiating. Burial of Dr. Creel's remains will be laid to rest in Angus, NM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Bobby J. Creel Student Scholarship Fund for Water Resources at NMSU (575) 646-4337.
