Bobbye Mae Stemsrud (Big Mom) was 85 years old when she passed away peacefully at home. She was born June 21st, 1938, in Estancia, NM, to James Ingle and Eva Mae (Spruill) Ingle. Bobbye was the youngest and only girl in the Ingle family. She is preceded in death by her brothers: George, Charles, Walter, and James.
Bobbye was a natural athlete who loved to ride her horse and play basketball in her hometown of Estancia, NM. She was also a member of the Rainbow girls as her dad and uncles were Masons.
Bobbye had a degree in social work from Eastern New Mexico University, where she met her 1st husband, James Harding. They had 3 children: Titana (Tana) Lynn, Gregory Kent, and Eric Lewis. Bobbye worked and retired from the State of New Mexico, where she had a great career as a social worker and district manager for Child Protective Services. She was an amazing child advocate and became a best friend and family member to all those she worked with. After retirement, Bobbye was well known around the area when she worked for Dillard’s.
Bobbye loved to get dressed up, grab dinner, and go country dancing. That is where she met her husband, Dennis Stemsrud. Dennis and Bobbye were married on June 12th, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bobbye was joined in heaven by her daughter, Tana (Frank) Shulla. She is survived by her 2 sons, Kent and Eric (Delanna) and her 2 stepchildren: Allen "Kit" (Becky) Stemsrud, children Ralph, Daphne and Stacey and Kim (John) Reyes, children Noah and Kara. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Lexi, Brittany, Austin (Andria), Allyson, Sydney (Cooper), Amanda, Samantha, Henry, Sabrina, Hamish, Ginger and Veronica. Great Grandchildren Aspyn and Bridge Milius. She also had many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bobbye befriended everyone she came in contact with and was always able to show love, empathy, compassion, and a couch to sleep on, all without judgment. She was generous to a fault, and only God knows how she was able to help so many family, friends, and strangers. One of her greatest gifts was the ability for everyone to feel better about themselves, valued and seen. Her love and light will continue to shine on everyone she touched.
Please join her family and friends on Friday, January 12th, 2024, at 2:00 pm. The service will be held at Getz Funeral Home 1410 E. Bowman Ave., Las Cruces, NM 88001.
