Brady B. Porter, 80 years old and longtime farmer and owner of Porter Farm Center, died on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at La Posada - Mesilla Valley Hospice. Brady was born May 16, 1927 in Colorado City, Texas to Joel Fontain and Edna Jewell Porter. He attended and graduated from Hatch High School in 1943 and in 1947 he married Ruth Underwood of Hatch and they had two children, Bill and Terry. Brady farmed in the Hatch area for over 60 years and owned and operated Porter Farm Center for more than 30 years. At one time he was co-owner of a ranch in the Hatch area. He was a member of the Hatch Valley School Board for many years and served on the Production Credit Association Board of Directors for 37 years. Brady served as chairman of that board for many years. He enjoyed working with his sons and granddaughters with their livestock projects, showing their animals at the Southern New Mexico State Fair and at the State Fair in Albuquerque. He had served on the Board of Directors at the Southern New Mexico State Fair, and was a longtime supporter of 4-H and FFA programs. He is survived by his son Bill Porter and his wife Debbie of Salem, NM; one brother, Bob Porter and his wife Laura of Las Cruces, NM; five grandchildren, Dajah Porter Howell, Charli Porter, Terrance Porter, Justin Porter, and Brady Shane Porter and one great granddaughter, Brittany Porter. Also surviving Brady is one niece Brenda Porter Hudson. Besides his parents, Fontain and Jewell Porter, he was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, in 2002 and his son Terry, in 1994. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Hatch, NM. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Hatch. Officiating will be Rev. Jim Wood. Serving, as pallbearers will be Kenny Gillespie, Robert Lara, Al Porter, Chuck Watkins, Don Hackey, and Sonny Houghtaling. Honorary pallbearers will be, Ralph Hackey, Joe Morrow, Johnnie Jo Bartlett, and the members of the Farm Credit Board. Brady's family would like to give a special thanks to his caregivers, Elizabeth "June" Corn and Sister Marilyn Rose Deitz.
