After a brief stay at Memorial Medical Center, Dr. Brenda L. Watson O.D. passed from this life on September 1, 2007, to spend eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born November 8, 1960, in Anniston, AL, to Virginia Owens Watson and the late Jerre Patton Watson, Brenda spent her youth in Alabama, graduating from Cleburne County High School in 1979. Brenda completed her B.S. at Jacksonville State University in 1983 and continued her education at the University of AL in Birmingham. Brenda then obtained her O.D. at Northeastern State University, College of Optometry, in Tahlequah, OK, in 1989. Brenda joined the U.S. Army, serving as a Captain at Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas, until her honorable discharge on July 10, 1998. Discovering her love of the southwest, Brenda worked briefly in El Paso before moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico, to work with EyeMasters at Mesilla Valley Mall. At this point, Brenda opened her own business, Eye Care Associates of Las Cruces. She relocated to the Wal-Mart off of Walton and later moved to Sam's Club. Her many patients will miss her generous spirit, care and professionalism. Brenda was actively involved in her community, serving the Lions Club where she could pursue her passion for "fixing eyes", benefiting many children in Juarez and other local communities. Energetic, outgoing and outspoken, you always knew where you stood with Brenda. She was also a valued member of University Church of Christ, and has served as co-coordinator of the Singles Group. Highly educated, confident and intelligent, she remained authentic and without pretention. Giving of herself and her financial support, her passing leaves a vacuum in many lives. Preceded in death by her grandparents, Nelson C. Watson Sr. and Annie Lou Watson, Arthur S. Owens and Evie Aline Owens, and her father, Jerre Patton Watson, Brenda leaves behind her mother, Virginia Owens Watson of Heflin, AL; her brother, Tommy Watson and wife, Kathy Wells Watson, and son, Patton Wells Watson, of Anniston, AL; her uncles, Mitchell Owens of Glencoe, AL, Cecil Owens and wife, Betty, of Tallapoosa, GA, N.C. Watson and wife, Betty, of Valley, AL; her aunt Mary Frances Tarver of Heflin, AL, and many cousins and friends. Brenda will also be sorely missed by her special friends; her horses, Cruz and Czar; her dogs, Sadie, Duke and Charlie; and her cats, Chaps and Sassy. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday September 4, 2007, at University Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to offer a memorial donation to either the Lions Club Mission Program or the UCC Youth Fund. PDF Printable Version
