Burl Dean Williams, age 72, of Las Cruces, entered into heavenly rest on April 5, 2009. Dean was born October 7, 1936 in the village of Wolf, Oklahoma to Austin and Esther Williams. He lived in Oklahoma until his teenage years when he and his family moved to Plainview, Texas. He married Jonell Wilson on July 21, 1956 in Lockney, Texas. After living for a short period of time in the Texas Panhandle, they move to New Mexico settling in Las Cruces in 1963 where he has lived for the last 46 years. During that time, he worked for Burn Construction until 1981. Dean loved to garden--taking great pride in the beautiful rose gardens that surround his home. Camping and traveling also brought great joy into his life. He treasured his relationships with family and friends. He was an active member of First Baptist Church. He will be deeply missed by all his family and many friends who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jonell of the family home; two sons, Ron Williams of Las Cruces, N.M. and Steve Williams and wife Jana of Summerville, South Carolina. two sisters, Barbara McDonald and husband Gary of Darrouzett, TX and Judy McDonald of Wichita Falls, TX; five grandchildren Jesse and wife Belinda, Lorena, Amanda and husband Philip, Stephanie and husband Wesley, Charlee; ten great-grandchildren Amaris, Jordan, Noah, Charisma, Andrew, John, Adam, Samuel, Leah, Carly, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Austin & Esther Williams; three brothers, Ralph, Lee, and Warner Williams. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM today Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at Getz Funeral Home. Funeral Services to celebrate Burl's life are at 1 PM on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Maurice Hollingsworth officiating with burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Barnett, Bill Frye, Caton Putman, Norman Smith, Jesse Williams and George Wolfe. Honorary Pallbearers are Roger Dermine, O.D. Maes, Lonnie Moore, Jim Nelson, Gene Whitlow and Jim Sewell. PDF Printable Version
