Cynthia Jane Bigbee Hammond, aged 87, died peacefully at her home in Las Cruces, NM on Monday, August 3rd, 2015. She was born on July 15th, 1928 in Albuquerque, NM to J. Franklin "Frank" Bigbee and Mildred Penry Bigbee, being raised on the Bigbee family ranch in Encino, New Mexico. Cynthia Jane Bigbee Hammond, aged 87, died peacefully at her home in Las Cruces, NM on Monday, August 3rd, 2015. She was born on July 15th, 1928 in Albuquerque, NM to J. Franklin "Frank" Bigbee and Mildred Penry Bigbee, being raised on the Bigbee family ranch in Encino, New Mexico. She enjoyed her days growing up on the ranch with her brother, John and her two sisters, Barbara and Dena. She graduated from Bryn Mawr School when it was located in Santa Fe and attended the University of New Mexico where she was a sister in the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. In 1947, she married the love of her life, Dilworth Hammond on the family ranch in Encino, NM and had two sons. Cynthia was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Irwin and her parents, Frank Bigbee and Mildred Penry Bigbee. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dil Hammond, her sons, Richard (Evelyn) Hammond, Mark (Beverly) Hammond, granddaughter, Elizabeth Hammond , grandsons, Ryan (Nicole) Hammond, Jake (Becky) Hammond, brother John F. (Povy) Bigbee, sister, Dena (Mike) O'Connell, nieces Pam Brightwell, Amy Bigbee, Diane Calhoun, Linda Weston; nephews, Bob Irwin, Matt Bigbee, Dan Irwin, Eric O'Connell. She is also survived by 3 great grandchildren, Leena, Duncan, and Morgan Fern. Special thanks go out to the staff at the Morningside Building at Northrise and to Mesilla Valley Hospice Services, both in Las Cruces. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.Inurnment of cremains will take place on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Encino Cemetery in Encino, NM
