Carl W. Cook, Jr., passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord August 2, 2014 in Las Cruces after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 20, 1932 in Lubbock, Texas to Donna (Albright) Cook and Carl W. Cook, Sr. Carl married Shirley (Sammons) Cook whom he met in Reno, Nevada while serving with the Air Force at Stead Air Force Base. They lived in Alamogordo, NM, for over 50 years where they raised two sons and one daughter. He was employed by Land-Air (Dynalectron, DynCorp, New Tec, TRAX) from 1959 to July 2014 except for the nine years he spent in Saudi Arabia working for the Arabian American Oil Co (ARAMCO) as a Project Engineer. He was a Deacon and a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alamogordo for many years and after moving to Las Cruces to be near his children for health reasons became a member of Valley View Baptist Church. While in Alamogordo, he volunteered several years with AARP TaxAide maintaining the computer equipment. Carl was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Shirley; two sons, Jerry and Steve; his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Daniel Montoya and his four grandchildren: Shaun (Bobby) Hobson of Las Cruces; Shelly (Mike) Cowden of Aztec, NM; Shannon (Scott) Drake of Alamogordo; and Randy Montoya of Las Cruces. He is also survived by his eight great grandchildren: Jorgi Hobson, Bobby Joe Hobson, Mason Hobson, Michael Cowden, Jenna Cowden, Joshua Cowden, Sage Drake and Sheyanne Drake. Carl is also survived by his four siblings; Glenn (Eleanor) Cook, David Jay, Marilyn Jay, Don (Jackie) Jay and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Carl's great loves in life were his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ; his extended family; his church families; and his work family. He always had a smile for each. He will be missed greatly by all. Thanks and extreme gratitude during his illness goes to Dr. Greenfield, Kristina Benavidez and the other staff of Memorial Medical Cancer Center. A memorial service celebrating life will be held at Valley-View Baptist Church, 4175 Lavender, Las Cruces NM, at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014. Rather than flowers, Carl would prefer you to donate to The Gideons International, MMC Cancer Center, Mesilla Valley Hospice or the charity of your choice. PDF Printable Version
