Carlos G. Gonzalez Jr., 86, a Lifelong resident of LasCruces passed away Wednesday March 1, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Carlos was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He was born August 24, 1930 to Carlos and Narcisa Gonzalez in Mesilla, New Mexico. Carlos Proudly served his country in the Korean War and was a life time member of the VFW post 6917. He served in the New Mexico National Guard (642nd Maintenance Company) with 24 years of service. He also served the city of Las Cruces as a Las Cruces Fire Fighter. Carlos was also a devout member of The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Those left to mourn his passing include his loving wife of 60 years Carmen A. Gonzalez, of the family home, Children; Thresa H. Gonzalez of the family home, Beatrice (Bea) Bernal and husband Sam T. Bernal, Carlos A. Gonzalez and wife Veronica, Maria G. Lopez and husband Benny, Juanita (Jenny) Ortega, Jose S. Gonzales and companion Becky Rios, sister; Natalia G. Lopez and husband Eduardo, of Mesilla, 16 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and most recently his son-in-law Eduardo Ortega. Serving as Casket bearers will be Carlos's family. Honorary bearers will be the Las Cruces Fire Department. A visitation for Carlos will be held at 6pm on Monday, March 6, 2017 at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, with a prayer vigil to follow. The Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30am on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Interment will follow the Mass at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
