Brad Phillips passed away peacefully on April 7, 2008 after a three-year struggle with cancer. Brad was born April 28, 1937 in Huntington, New York. He served as a mechanic in the U.S. Air Force after graduating high school on Long Island where his skill and passion with machinery continued to develop. After moving to New Mexico in 1970, he worked as a mechanic and was later employed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory as a security guard and later Range Master with the Security Protective Force. He was always quick to lend a hand to friends and spent his free time in his workshop. His hobby as a machinist led to a career change in 1988 and he relocated to Boulder, Colorado where he worked as a ski manufacturer. A passion of Brad's was building muzzleloaders by hand. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many good times with friends on hunting trips. Though he rarely brought game home from the hunt, as it was more about the camaraderie, his skills as a marksman were exceptional. He was one of the top marksmen in law enforcement and security services and was once recognized by the Governor as one of the States top twenty marksmen. He is survived by his two children Lauren and Mark and their significant others Jo and Patty, as well as his friend and former wife Carol Sandon and husband Gary. Brad was a man of few words, but spoke volumes through the things he built with his hands and the passion with which he built them. Brad will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. Memorial Services to celebrate his life will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made to either Mesilla Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society. PDF Printable Version
