Catherine Corinne Smith, 84, passed away Saturday October 7, 2023, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Catherine Corinne Smith, 84, passed away Saturday October 7, 2023, at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
She was born September 24, 1939, to Robert B. and Dora C. Veazie. She was raised and educated in North Adams, Massachusetts. She married her late husband of 62 years, Ronald in 1958. They were stationed at several Air Force bases for the first ten years of their marriage. In 1969, she packed up and moved with her husband, daughter, and a beagle in a Ford pickup camper to Alaska where they settled for the next 52 years.
Cathie and her husband owned and operated their successful land clearing business, Smith Equipment Contracting, for over 30 years. Their construction services allowed them to travel throughout the state of Alaska clearing land for subdivisions, transmission lines, highways, and airports. She worked the construction season in Alaska and was able to spend the off-season winters in Deming, New Mexico. In her retirement, she spent her summers at her home at Wolf Lake in Wasilla, Alaska. Eventually Deming became her final home.
She was an exceptional cook. She loved to browse cookbooks, watch her favorite chefs on the cooking channel and was known for her elaborate holiday parties.
She was also a talented and gifted artist. She loved to paint flowers and all her paintings were vibrant with colors. She could be seen at the holiday bazaars in Anchorage selling...

She always had a passion to travel. Her adventures included Great Britain, Ireland, Europe, Egypt, the Yucatan, and Mexico. Her two favorite destinations that she visited numerous times were London, England and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
She was a true beagle lover and had five in her lifetime.
She is preceded in her death by her husband, Ronald F. Smith.
Survivors include daughter Catherine C. Smith and son-in-law Jeffrey D. Greenwood, of Alaska. Brothers Robert J. Veazie of Colorado, William D. Veazie of Wisconsin. Sisters, Doreen Veazie of Connecticut, Margaret Betts of Colorado and Deborah Criswell of Alaska.
At her request, there will be no funeral service.
