Cecilia Irene Sánchez age 84, went to home to be with the lord Friday February 9, 2024. She was born April 25, 1939, in Placitas, New Mexico to Hugo Carreras and Petra Provencio Carreras.

Cecilia Irene Sánchez age 84, went to home to be with the lord Friday February 9, 2024. She was born April 25, 1939, in Placitas, New Mexico to Hugo Carreras and Petra Provencio Carreras.
Cecilias siblings are Nellie Atencio, Mila Gomez, Claudina Tarin, Richard Carreras, Lucinda Chavarria. Cecilia was married to the late Pedro Zamora Sánchez. Cecilia completed 7th grade, later in life she attended New Mexico State University while working as a teacher’s assistant at Lucero elementary and Washington Elementary receiving a master’s in education and a masters in Spanish. She continued as a bilingual educator and taught night school for adults English as a second language (esl) classes, also taught ballet folklorico to many students who attended Washington elementary. Where she was a teacher for 25 years and later retired. Our mother also received several awards and certifications in bilingual education.
Our mother’s passion was reading, wherever she sat there was a book. She would take a full box of books to exchange at Coas and leave with a full box of new books to read. She read books from numerous authors, anywhere from history, romance, westerns, biographies mysteries etc. What made her the happiest was when we all would gather at her home to enjoy all our favorite food she would prepare. Our mother was a devout catholic and attended St. Genevieve’s church till she no longer could attend.

Grandchildren are Paula Montes, Pete Sánchez, Desiree Aranibas, Jaime Sánchez, Jacob Sánchez, Javier Sánchez, Jacqueline Evans, Leo C. Evans, Jessica Evans, Irene Evans, Jenny Menchaca, Simon Evans, Leeann Evans, Sarah Sánchez, Sabrina Eveland. As well as 28 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Hugo Carreras and Petra Carreras, husband Pedro Zamora Sánchez, brother Richard Carreras, sister Nellie Atencio, sister Claudina Tarin and grandson Christopher (Chris) Sánchez.
A memorial service will be on Wednesday February 21, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Getz funeral home. Visitation for the family will be at 2:00 p.m.
