Celia "Sally" C. Lucero, 75 of Las Cruces, took the hand of God on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at home surrounded by her loving family. "Sally" as she was affectionately known was born May 12, 1932 in La Mesa, New Mexico to Guillermo and Belen Madrid Carabajal. She was a homemaker and a member of the Catholic Church. Sally's great passion for life showed through her humor and through the stories she told to her children and grandchildren. Sally was a very strong person who cherished the time spent with her family and friends. She touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. Sally is survived by her five daughters and one son, Eva Carabajal of the family home, Stella Alderete and husband Richard, Felix Valencia, Cynthia Lucero, Bridgit Ortega and husband Rick all of Las Cruces, and Sandra Lujan of Mesilla. Also surviving Sally are two sisters, Soledad "Chole" Gomez and husband Ramon of Las Cruces, NM Cruz Garcia and husband Roman of Visalia, CA and one brother, Clemente "Tito" Carabajal. Sally is also survived by 10 grandchildren whom she cherished very much, Crystal Carabajal, Valarie Valencia, Joshua and Celeste Alderete, Ryan and Brandon Lujan, Naomi, Jon, Israel and Xavier Ortega. She is also survived by her former husband Conrado Lucero of Mesilla, NM and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jesus Carabajal, grandson Jason, two nephews, Jerry Gomez and Richard Garcia, and niece, Linda Garcia. At Sally's request cremation has taken place and a gathering of family and friends will begin at 5:00 PM with a Rosary being prayed at 6:00 PM on Thursday, July 19, 2007 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel where a celebration of her life will follow. A Memorial Mass will be at 9:00 AM on Friday, July 20, 2007 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina. The Rite of Committal and burial of her ashes will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Garden Cemetery. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren PDF Printable Version
