Celia "Jocel" Geck (formerly Celia Anchondo), died Thursday, January 22, at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces. She passed peacefully with friends and family by her side. She was born on March 20, 1940 in Anthony, NM. Celia received a Bachelor's degree in Social Work from New Mexico State University and continued her education at the University Chicago, where she received her Master's in Social Work. She spent her professional life helping others in the area of social work and with social justice issues, especially women's issues. Celia also spent many years teaching in the Mesilla Valley and Las Cruces until her retirement in 2004. Celia is preceded in death by her parents, Luis Jose "Pepe" and Celestina (Apodaca) Geck; brother, Richard Geck; aunt, "Tia Jo" Geck; and daughter, Sylvia Anchondo. She is survived by brothers Antonio "Tony" Geck; Ralph (Ester) Geck; son, Robert "Bobby" Anchondo; and daughter, Christy Anchondo; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. A Prayer Vigil will take place at 7 P.M. on Monday January 26, 2015. Family and friends will join together to celebrate a Memorial Mass on Tuesday January 27, 2015 at 10 A.M., at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral. PDF Printable Version
