Charles E. Key 2/21/1927-7/25/2018 Charles E. Key, 91, passed away on July 25, 2018. Charles (Gene) was born in Acola, IL on February 21, 1927 to Charles H. "Chub" and Minnie Key. He served honorably in the Navy during World War II in Okinawa and Iwo Jima. In 1949, he married the love his life Norma Layton, they were married for 65 years. Charles and Norma moved to Las Cruces from Mattoon, IL in 1965. He worked as a Union Carpenter and Millwright until retirement. He was a proud member at Local 1245 for overs 50 years. Through the years, Charles and Norma helped start several camping clubs. After retirement, they pursued their passion of traveling and camping in their motor home. Charles' dream was to purchase a new R.V. and teach his family how to drive it. His dream was fulfilled, now in Heaven, teaching and chauffeuring. Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife, Norma, grandson Ron, his parents, brothers, Carl, Art, and Frank Key, sisters, Ida Mae Laymon, Norma Schieb, and Roberta Chambers. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Steve Key (Michele), daughter, Pamela Bridges (Keith), granddaughters, Raychel Key, Stacey and Trea Bridges. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Patricia), sisters, Charlotte Simpson and Wilma Price, and numerous nieces and nephews. A gravesite service will be held at 10 am, Friday, August 10th, 2018 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A reception honoring Charles will follow at Restoration Church, Suite 24, La Mision Plaza, 225 E. Idaho. FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS!
