Charles O'Donnell (Chuck) 73 passed away April 8th after a short battle with cancer. He was born August 29, 1934 to Charles and Harriet in Newark, New Jersey. He married the love of his life Barbara on May 18, 1963. In 1969 Chuck, along with his wife and his two children, moved to New Mexico and made their home in Las Cruces. He went on to work for Lockheed Martin. Chuck was a simple man who lived for being surrounded by his friends and family. He could always be found at Friday night football games watching his grandson play defense for the Mayfield Trojans. He spent many hours at the local VFW posts swapping stories with fellow veterans, or at the Elk's Lodge cutting up and carrying on with the "Good ol' boys" as he liked to call them. Papa you will be truly missed by all who knew you. Your smile, your laughter and those quick-witted jokes only you could come up with will live in our hearts forever. He is survived by his son Charles "Chuckie" O'Donnell Jr., his daughter Colleen (Leo) Romero. His granddaughter Crystal Preece, and grandson Steven Preece whom he was so proud of. Sisters Joni (Tom) Ricardo and their children Thomas Jr. (Lena), John (Joanne), Ricky (Jen), Lynn (Dennis) Matthews, Dineen (Edward) Conory. Diane (George) Schreiber and their children Joseph Schreiber and James (Denise) Schreiber. Brother Jack and son John (Renee). We find our peace in knowing you will be with grandma once again. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Harriet, sister, Mildred Amodio, brother, Denny O'Donnell and also by his wife Barbara whom he missed dearly. A visitation will be from 4 to 6 PM on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Getz Funeral Home Chapel where a Prayer Service will follow at 6 PM. At Chuck's request, cremation will follow. Chuck's family would like to give special thanks to Mesilla Valley Hospice and the many nurses who took care of him. Especially, nurse O'Hara who is as Irish to the core as he was. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in his name to Mesilla Valley Hospice, 299 Montana Ave. Las Cruces, NM 88005, so that they may continue to comfort other families as they did ours.
