Charlotte K Priestley-Martin passed away on Sunday January 21, 2018 in Las Cruces surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her passing ended a 6-year battle with Alzheimer's disease. Charlotte Ann Kincheloe was born March 21, 1934 in Albuquerque, NM to Thurlow B. Kincheloe and Leila Amelia Rosendahl. Her family moved quite a bit following her father's job as an X-ray repairman and technician with the VA. They lived a few years beside Bonito Lake, NM while he worked at Ft. Stanton. She had many fond memories of those years. She later attended Austin and El Paso High schools, and graduated from UTEP. Then came marriage, and 4 children, and a life filled with many endeavors. At one point she was raising kids, taking classes at NMSU, farming, keeping the books at Hayden's Hardware, and working evening security at St Paul's United Methodist church - all at the same time - and still found time to sing in the church choir. Charlotte's passions included music, the study of all religions, needlework of any kind, furniture refinishing, crafts, and she was a voracious reader. She always carried a large purse because she needed the room for her crocheting, yarn, and hooks. When the family bought land near Brazito, she designed and drafted - by hand - the plans for the house. She and her children restored the doctor's buggy that sat in the lobby at Holiday Inn for years, as well as the buckboard (wagon) that still sits outside the Sherriff's office on Motel Blvd. Charlotte was a member of Eastern Star, Panhellinic, Dona Ana County Historical Society, St Paul's United Methodist Church, and PEO. She was past president of the Western Irrigated Pecan Grower's Association and the Dona Ana County Historical Society. Charlotte is survived by her brother Tom (Beverly) of Georgetown TX, her children Tom of Longmont CO, Joe (Patty) of El Paso, Leila of Alamogordo, and Sarah Hicks (Robert) of Henrietta OK. She was "Mama Schatz" to 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband and love of her life Judge Jim Martin. A memorial service will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St Paul's United Methodist Church, 225 W. Griggs Ave., Las Cruces. Reception to follow in the church atrium. The family would like to thank Lupita and Mark Ewing, Home Instead Senior Care, and especially Bonnie Zeiler and her staff at the Desert Willows memory unit at Northrise for the love and care they gave. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to Alzheimer's research.
