Cheryl Rae Trujillo was granted her angel wings on November 19, 2011 following a 4-year battle with cancer. She spent her final days with friends and family, Cheryl touched the lives of all that knew her. She will always be remembered for her smile, sense of humor, strength, bravery, and sweet demeanor. The youngest of three girls she was born on January 25, 1961 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to James and Nancy Pettis. Cheryl graduated from Los Lunas High School and attended New Mexico Highlands University where she met the love of her life, John Trujillo. John and Cheryl were married on July 23, 1983. In 1993 she joined the Aggies and became an Alumna of New Mexico State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. Through her love for children she dedicated her time as a licensed social worker for Child Protective Services, CASA volunteer, and substitute teacher. Cheryl was an avid Dancing with the Stars fan, loved to spend her weekends shopping with her two daughters, and enjoyed spending Friday afternoons out with her husband. Her great joy in life was watching her two daughters grow into young women. Cheryl is survived by her husband, John Trujillo; daughters Andrea Trujillo, Raquel Sullivan and husband, Nicholas; mother Nancy Pettis; parents in law Sesario Trujillo, Angelina Trujillo; sister Audrey DeMenno and husband, Vince; godchildren Dolltyn Rosas, Risher Rosas; and 12 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Sabrina Blahetka; father James Pettis; and nephew Robert Trujillo. A memorial prayer vigil will take place on November 26, 2011 at 10:15 am at Holy Cross Church followed by a memorial funeral mass at 11:00 am. Cheryl will be laid to rest in Belen, New Mexico. The family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers. PDF Printable Version
