Christopher Lyle Floyd, born December 20, 1972 in Ft. Hood, Texas, passed away July 4, 2012 at University Medical Hospital, El Paso, Texas. He was born to James D. Floyd and Nancy Hohn Stein. Chris comes from a long line of ancestors who pioneered this country prior to the revolutionary war and grew up in Lordsburg, Deming, and Las Cruces where he finally settled. He lived his short life at full speed and touched many lives along the way. He loved competing in off-road motorcycling, shooting, hiking, camping, and just about anything outdoors. He was an avid lover of nature. Chris was a sergeant in the Southwest Desert Militia and a journeyman electrician. At the time of his passing he was an employee of San Saba Pecan, LP. Chris was preceded in death by his mother Nancy, and both of his grandfathers John Floyd and Charlie Hohn. He is survived by his father James and step mother Nohemi Floyd, his grandmothers Betty Delamater and Janie D. Floyd, both of Las Cruces, his step father Jim Stein of Martinez, California, sisters: Janie Floyd and Alexandra Gutierrez (Francisco) of Aledo, Texas, and brothers: Charlie Stein of Stephenville, Texas and Kevin Stein of Livermore, California. He is also survived by the following aunts and uncles: Eleanor & Kevin Copeland of El Paso, Texas, Jennifer Gonzalez of Meridian, Idaho, Guy and Carla Floyd, Gregg and Beverly Floyd all of Las Cruces. In addition, Chris had many cousins, and his girl friend Meribeth Higby-Turner. He will be deeply missed by all. Chris lived by doing and doing it well and leaving everything and everyone better than he found them. Visitation will be at Getz Funeral Home Monday July 9 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, 1410 E. Bowman Ave. Las Cruces, NM. A graveside service will be at Masonic Cemetery, 760 S Compress Rd. Las Cruces, NM, Tuesday, July 10 at 10:00 am.
