Claudie E. Goins passed away on October 18, 2010 after a prolonged illness. She is survived by her 2 sons, Steve Goins (Shirley), Billy & Anita Goins, of Las Cruces, 5 grandchildren, Destiny Padilla-Pasternak (Dave) of Los Angeles, CA. Jeremy Goins (Jean), Will Goins, Melanie Goins and Ashley Goins and 1 great-granddaughter, Analisa Parra, all of Las Cruces. Claudie is also survived by her sister, Elota Bethany and her family of Las Cruces, a cousin, Lloyd Lindsey of Big Springs, Texas, and her dearest and closest friends for many years, Phyllis & Jimmy Prince of Las Cruces. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and a sister and twin brothers who died in infancy. Claudie Elwanda Page was born on January 15, 1934 to Ruby and Olan Page in Forrest, NM. She spoke often about the wonderful memories she had as a child playing and working on the ranch and tagging along with her dad where ever he went. She was a self-proclaimed "tomboy" and loved to climb trees, ride horses and go hunting. At the age of 11, she moved with her family to T or C, NM where she spent her teenage years. In T or C, she met and married William H. (Buddy) Goins in 1949. Claudie and Buddy relocated to Las Cruces where they raised their 2 sons, Steve and Billy. While raising her family, Claudie worked at Rexall Drug Store, Surplus City and New Mexico State University. After her divorce in 1982, she went on to obtain her Associates Degree in Business Administration and retired from the Registrar's office at NMSU in 1992, after 25 years. She was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority for many years and served as President of the chapter in 1993-94. Claudie loved to travel and was fortunate enough to have visited many places with her lifelong friend, Phyllis Prince. Together they traveled to Europe, the Caribbean islands, Hawaii, Alaska and many other places. Claudie was truly an inspiration to everyone who knew her. She was a determined, intelligent, independent and successful woman, who was able to obtain her education, build a home, have a successful career, travel the world, and be financially independent. Claudie was as giving as she was hard working. She was always available to help in any way she could to all of her family, friends and co-workers. While we are truly proud of Claudie for her perseverance through the battle of her lifetime against Parkinson's Disease, Rheumatoid arthritis and Alzheimer's disease throughout the last 5 years, we choose to remember her the way she was before her illness; strong, adventurous, fun-loving and full of life. We will miss her smiles, her laugh, her hugs and her unconditional love. A memorial Service will be held to celebrate the life of Claudie Goins on Wednesday, October 27th at 2:00 pm at Getz Funeral Chapel. Cremation has taken place. PDF Printable Version
