Consuelo Duran Galaz, 74, of Las Cruces died Sunday March 18, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center. She was born April 25, 1932 in Mesilla, NM to Pedro and Candida Duran. Her family was one of the original Duran families of the 1900's and she was raised in Mesilla until she married Luis T. Galaz. She attended school and went to the Catholic Church in Mesilla. Consuelo worked very hard in the cotton and onion fields and later in life helped her family in the chile fields. She remained very devoted to the Catholic faith and passed that on not only to her family, but the many children she taught in her Catechism classes. Consuelo was also very active with politics, getting people to register to vote, and taking those that needed a ride or help to vote. She had a great passion for bingo and dancing, but her greatest love was that for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her Mexican cooking and reassuring smile will be missed by all. She is survived by her three daughters, Teresa Ramos-Henderson and husband Tim of Las Cruces, NM; Maria Luisa Galaz and companion Rudy Torres of Dona Ana, NM; Emma Alonzo and husband Fernando of Colorado Springs, CO; two sons, Luis D. Galaz Jr. of Las Cruces, NM; Ruben D. Galaz and companion Silva Flores of San Miguel, NM. She is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Luis T. Galaz; brothers, Guadalupe and Demetrio Duran; and sister, Jesusita Duran-Guerra. A visitation will be held Thursday March 22, 2007 from 5-7 PM at Getz Funeral Home with a prayer vigil to follow the same evening at the Getz Funeral Home Chapel at 7 PM. The funeral mass will be given at 10 AM Friday March 23, 2007 at St. Genevieve's Catholic Church. Officiating will be Rev. Ricardo Bauza. The rite of committal will be at Masonic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Luis D. Galaz Jr. Ruben D. Galaz, Jose Luis Ramos, Demetrio Luis Galaz, Fernando R. Alonzo, and Raul T. Martinez. The family would like to give a heart felt thanks to the staffs of the CCU at Memorial Medical Center and the Las Cruces Nursing Center. PDF Printable Version
